HISTORY 1969-1987 In 1969 I visited the well known Fredwell and Maycombe kennels and purchased Fredwell Floozey (Int Ch Fredwell Dimber/Axters Fabiola (a gt granddaughter of Ch. F Varon Vandal). Although soundly constructed she did not like the show ring but made an excellent foundation bitch. Her first litter by Ch Wingjays Polygamy of Maycombe resulted in B. Foghorn who, in 1971, won junior dog Crufts, Res CC Manchester and much more. He was later exported to Canada. Floozey’s second litter to Ch Barrabooka Far to Go produced BALMACARA CRUMPET and BALMACARA COCOA (1CC, res CC) B.Crumpet, who gained numerous BOBs at open shows and placed highly at ch.shows, was mated to Ch Stormfield Hugo (Ch Ballymaconnel Forester x Stormfield Tanzy (daughter of Varon Vandal) and this produced an excellent litter: Ir Ch B DOUNBEG (2 CCs 2 res CCs) B DEWDROP res CC, res CAC). In 1976 my husband was posted to Germany where I took B Love in May (repeat mating Hugo/ Crumpet), and B Dew Drop. These bitches were shown on the continent with success though we did not breed or exhibit a lot during our time abroad. Love in May was mated to Ch Endeavour von Bengalon (Akerwood Chorister x Akerwood Wistful) the result being B. PUDDLES (CACIB, CAC, res CACIB CAC, res CC). Puddles returned to the UK with us in 1980. The Errey’s Ch Stormfield Russet (Ch S Hugo x Beacontree Ember) was mated to Puddles and I acquired MERRYBEECH WELLINGTON of B (1 CC, 22 ch.1st prizes and numerous BOBs. Wellington was the sire of many CC and res CC winning stock including champions at home and overseas. In 1984 I purchased a bitch, Balleroy Buxom (daughter of Ch Harecroft Magnus) from Pat Moncur, and in 1985 mated her to Wellington, and this resulted in Ch B GUNFIRE and Ch B GUNSHOT and a repeat mating produced BALMACARA HIGHLAND PRINCE (1CC, 6 res CCs). Willow Cottage
Kennels at Willow Cottage HISTORY 1994-2003 In 1994 I was doing more judging than breeding at home and overseas where I admired some Danish bassets; I studied photos, pedigrees and record books of their bassets and decided to import a male. I was very lucky to be offered Morkeberg’s It’s Now or Never who I made into a champion in three months. I also imported a bitch, Morkeberg’s Felicia. Both were soundly constructed and I was particularly drawn by their fore and hind angulations giving powerful movement. I bought another bitch from Pat Moncur, Balleroy Venus (daughter of Ch Bassbarr O’Sullivan). She was mated to It’s Now or Never which resulted in Balmacara Love Story. She was shown little but won BPIS at the Midland BHC Ch Show in 1997 and Best Puppy, reserve best bitch Midland BHC Open show in 1998. A repeat mating Now or Never/Venus produced CH BALMACARA TRUMPETER 4 CCs, 2 res CCs 3 BOBs, Group 4 Paignton Ch show 2002 and Balmacara Amber Queen (also shown little due to work commitments) went reserve best bitch at club open show. Morkeberg’s Felicia at B. was mated to It’s Now or Never from which we kept B Double Edition (3 res CCs, BIS Club open show) and B Double Delight (1CC and BPIB Scottish BHC Ch show). Castellisaf the Odyssey (Garmichlay Apollo x B Love Storm) came to us in 2001. She was shown on a few occasions only and placed highly including Best Puppy Bitch at LKA Ch Sh. A mating is planned early 2004. In summer 2002 B Double Delight was mated to Trumpeter which resulted in B Highland Singer (consistent championship show first prize winner) and her litter brother B Highland Piper. INT.CH. BALMACARA BAXTER (2 res CCs) (It’s Now or Never son) is living in Belgium at NHABIRA kennels. Huntford True Harmony was mated to It’s Now or Never and from this I acquired Hamlock Dorset Dolly. Dolly had 5 BPIB, BOB Richmond Ch show 2002, Puppy Group3, Hound show 2002 and res best bitch Paignton Championship show 2002 . Dolly was mated to Trumpeter and produced an excellent litter, four of which were retained for the show ring, 3 bitches, 1 dog, B Special Love, B Something to Love (owned by Richard Porter, Richsomes Bassets) B Special Design and B Special Edition, kept by myself. SIR EDDY DES OMBRIERES D’ASQUES (Port Ch Like Daddy dos Sete Moinhos x Oh My God des Ombrieres d’Asques arrived from France end Oct 2002. B Amber Queen was mated to him and produced a quality litter. B French Dream is being campaigned by Judith Haynes (Harebolt). A repeat mating is planned summer 2004.
